What is RCIA?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which people enter into the Catholic Faith. It is where interested men and women can explore Catholicism and over the period of months make a decision to become Catholic. The process is concerned with the total formation of the person and is often called a "Journey of Faith" because we are all at varying stages in our understanding of the life that Christ has called us to live.
RCIA IS DESIGNED FOR THOSE PERSONS WHO:
- Have not been baptized and are at least 7 years of age
- Have been baptized in another Christian religion and are seeking full communion with the Catholic Church
- Are baptized Catholics, 18 years of age or more, but have not received Holy Communion in the Catholic Church
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS?
The RCIA meeting times usually start in early September, with weekly classes that are held on Thursday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in English. The Spanish speaking group meets on Sundays 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Both groups continue to meet through Easter of the following year (approximately 8 to 9 months).
In addition to the Thursday evenings & or Sunday Afternoons , the process includes meeting during the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass for the Spanish mass and during the 9:00 a.m. mass from December through Easter.
RCIA is a preparation for the participant to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation during the Easter Vigil Liturgy. The groups continue to meet as they did before Easter for a short time to reflect on their new life in the Church after they receive these sacraments.
