Saint John, the Beloved Disciple

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary, the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala.  When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son." Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother."  And from that hour the disciple took her into his home."  John19:25-27  We welcome the image, of the beloved disciple, whom tradition has called John, to the reredos of Our Lord of Esquipalas (the black Jesus) in the Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe to accompany the Sorrowful mother image.   The space has been occupied by St. Agnes, the Vietamese martyr, but she will be given a new space with the picture of the 123 Vietnamese martyrs, among whom she is the only named woman.  Sr. Consuelo and the family of Ramiro Gutierrez were able to find an image that corresponds to the original cohort of saint images placed in our Church to represent the various groups within our parish.   But the Beloved Disciple is all of us united with the Blessed Mother under the Cross of our Lord.  We are all beloved by our in his complete act of self-giving on the Cross.  St. John, the beloved disciple, pray for us.
